Ascent Hospitality believes in getting the job done no matter what. They undertook the huge task of renovating the Chattanoogan Hotel in downtown Chattanooga, TN, and hired us to update the online images as the work was being done. We did several different shoots for this hotel and were so proud of how it all turned out.

What Made This Hotel Photo Shoot Unique

It is much easier to build a hotel from the ground up than it is to completely renovate an older property while serving guests. The renovation process requires finesse and it takes an experienced hotel management company to juggle all the different priorities. The management and front desk team at this hotel are pros and did an exceptional job making their guests feel at home in the midst of all the changes.

The hotel was owned by the city of Chattanooga and Ascent Hospitality saw its value right away. The hotel began renovations as an independent property before becoming a part of the Hilton Curio Collection. We photographed the hotel in phases so we got to witness the transformation happen.

Mixing Business With Pleasure

We travel through Chattanooga several times a year since it is on the way to my parents house from our home in Illinois. By the time we get to Chattanooga, we are almost “there” so we have never spent time exploring the city. This changed after multiple trips to photograph the Chattanoogan. We fell in love with downtown Chattanooga and now instead of just passing through, we view Chattanooga as a destination. On one of our trips to photograph, we even took Greg’s grandmother with us and the whole team at the hotel helped us celebrate her birthday.

Hotel Photography for Drury Inn and Suites – Knoxville West

We are the only approved hotel photographer for Drury Hotels which means that we get to travel all over the country photographing their properties. The Drury Inn and Suites – Knoxville West was one of their brand new hotels so we got to capture new photos to show off their property after it opened. It’s a nice benefit of our job that we get to be among the first people to see new properties.

We photographed 7 different room types at the hotel so it was a busy shoot but one of the things we love about photographing hotels for Drury is that their rooms are so consistent and easy to prepare. Prior to any shoot, we send the property our hotel photography guidelines as well as the brand’s photography guidelines. Since Drury used our guidelines to write theirs, the properties have a good idea of what is expected for them to prepare for their photo shoot.

Sometimes, hotels choose monochromatic color schemes for their rooms which is pretty but doesn’t always photograph as well as a room with some pops of color. We loved the contrast of the blue and orange in the guest rooms. The blue and orange accents against the crisp white sheets made for a nice contrast on those photos. That same blue and orange color scheme in the dining area also photographed well.

The weather was perfect which made for great exterior photos as well as allowed us to get out and explore the local area. I lived in Knoxville many years ago so I enjoyed spending some time there while we were in town to photograph the hotel. Knoxville is one of those cities that is on our way to a lot of destinations. We drive through there frequently but rarely do we stop.
